-- Proceeds to Support Grants to Innovative Westford Educators --

News Highlights

WESTFORD, MA  -- November 15, 2005 -- The Westford Education Foundation (WEF), a non-profit organization that supports Westford Public Schools and the Nashoba Valley Technical High School and its faculties, recently hosted its 4th annual Walk for Education . The fundraiser promotes awareness in the community about the Foundation, but more importantly raises funds that the Foundation uses annually to award innovative teachers with educational grants.

The Walk for Education was held on Sunday, October 1st, beginning at Westford Common and proceeding 1.5 miles to Westford Academy. Last year’s Walk allowed WEF to surpass the $10,000 mark of funds awarded and supported grants for five new programs. WEF’s innovative and professional development grants have totaled more than $20,000, which have benefited over 40 teachers, and supported over 15 new innovative programs. For more information, please call Sandra Wright (978-392-4969) or visit the website (www.westfordeducationfoundation.org).

WEF Quote

“Thanks to the efforts of so many, WEF has already raised tens of thousands of dollars in support of Westford school teachers and faculty,” notes Foundation President, Kathy Fahey.  â€œWe’ve had the great honor of awarding over 20 grants that have benefited over 50 teachers, and have had a direct impact on thousands of students. We aim to continue our support of Westford’s fine educational system, and more to the point, the excellence of our Westford education.”

The Kids Party

To get the school children involved in participating, WEF sponsors a program to honor the class that registers the most walkers. This year, Ms. Henri's 1st grade class at Nabnasset Elementary was victorious. Ms. Henri and her class her treated to a pizza party from Westford’s Silver Palette and a Staples gift certificate for having the most registered walkers at the 2006 Walk for Education. We salute them.

Local Support Growing

Many area businesses have shown their support in terms of sponsorships and donated items, which were raffled off after the walk. “It is clear from the overwhelming support that we have received to date that the business community, the academic community, and the community-at large realizes the importance of working together to support excellence in education,” said Sandy Wright, Treasurer.

WEF wishes to express special thanks to all you have supported the Walk for Education and extends a special word of appreciation to our largest supporters, which includes:

Thanks to the support of these fine organizations and their supreme generosity, WEF was able to make this year’s event a success. After the walk, walkers enjoyed an indoor party with snacks and raffle prizes (including tickets to the Big Event 2007!).
