WESTFORD, MA -- September 14, 2004 -- The Westford Education Foundation (WEF), a non-profit organization that supports Westford Public Schools and its faculty, will host its 2nd annual Walk for Education. The fundraiser promotes awareness in the community about the Foundation, but importantly raises funds that the Foundation will use to award innovative teachers with educational grants this fall.   The Walk for Education will be held on Sunday, September 26th at 1PM beginning at Westford Common and proceeding 1.5 miles to Westford Academy. Last year’s walk raised more than $10,000 and supported grants for 5 new programs. For more information please call Stephanie Sullivan (978-392-9945) or visit the website www.westfordeducationfoundation.org.

WEF Quote…

In just its first year, WEF has already raised thousands of dollars in support of Westford school teachers and faculty ,” notes Foundation President, Jeannette Wilkinson.   “We’ve had the great honor of awarding over a dozen grants that have benefited over 35 teachers, and have had a direct impact on over 750 students in one year alone. We aim to continue our support of Westford’s fine educational system, and more to the point, the excellence of our children’s education.”

About the Walk…

The Walk for Education will take place on Sunday, September 26th, beginning at Westford Common. The walkers will proceed down Main Street to Forge Village Road to Patten Road, ending the 1.5-mile walk at Westford Academy. At the finish, there will be festivities, a variety of great raffle items, and a DJ for all ages to enjoy.

The Foundation has already received support from teachers, administrators, parents, and students and is hoping many more from the community will come out to participate in this very important fundraiser. Walk For Education registration and check-in will start at noon on the Common (rain or shine), with a 12:50PM line-up for the 1PM start.

Registration…

There is a $15 registration fee for all walkers (students walk for free).   The first 150 paid registrations will receive a “Walk for Education” T-shirt.   Anyone can participate in the Walk, and those not wishing to pay $15 can obtain pledges to cover the $15 registration fee.   The Foundation is encouraging people to form teams and raise as much money as they can. Prizes will be awarded to the team that raises the most money per walker.

All checks are tax-deductible and payable to Westford Education Foundation.   Checks may be mailed to PO Box 535, Westford, MA 01886, or turned in the day of the Walk.   Registration forms will be sent home in student’s folders, but are also available at the JV Fletcher Library, Roudenbush Community Center, Teaching Toys and online at www.westfordeducationfoundation.org.

Local Support Growing…

Many area businesses have shown their support in terms of sponsorships and donated raffle items.   “It is clear from the overwhelming support that we have received to date that the business community, the academic community and the community-at large realizes the importance of working together to support excellence in education,” said Nancy DiMaggio, Treasurer.

WEF wishes to express special thanks to all you have supported the Walk for Education and extends a special word of appreciation to our largest supporters which includes:
